Meals From The Heart will fellowship and serve Christ as they provide food to families in times of special need, such as during illness, death, and the more joyful occasion of the birth of a new child. The tentative format of the Christian service we wish to provide from Meals from the Heart is as follows:
Those who like to cook and bake will gather throughout the year to prepare and freeze casseroles, meat dishes, cookies and cakes. With the help of several “Coordinators” we will hopefully be aware each week of our Church Family members in need of a helping hand for dinner. Then, through the service of a team of “deliverers” we hope to supplement a frozen dish and dessert with a fresh salad or fruit from the store and deliver dinner as needed.
In addition to those who enjoy cooking and baking, the Meals from the Heart group welcomes everyone in our Church Family interested in participating in the following:
Prayer Warriors:
You may not have the time or capacity currently to help with cooking, baking, coordinating or delivering. But you may be a real prayer warrior! Please pray for Meals from the Heart as we cook and bake and then serve our Church Family. Please pray for those in our Church Family who receive meals. Please pray that everyone in our Church Family knows the love of God through this ministry.
Coordinators -
This might be a special place for you to serve if you are in a position to be aware of persons in our Church Family who are scheduled for surgery, who have a family member sick or hospitalized, know when someone has lost a job or experienced a death in the family or the joy of a birth. Your job would then be to phone the family and determine their needs and special dietary requirements. Then you would phone a “deliverer” and advise them of the needs.
Deliverers:
You may wish to serve in this capacity if you have a few minutes to stop at the church and pick up a frozen casserole and a bag of cookies, stop at the store and pick up a salad or some fruit and drop it off to the Church Family in need. You may wish to visit with them for a short time to lift their spirits or share in their joy.
Cash Contributors:
Monetary gifts are always welcome to provide the ingredients and pans we need to prepare and freeze food, as well as to offset expenses for the fresh salads and other delivery expenses.
Meals from the Heart needs people to deliver meals. Contact Shelley Porter or email the church office office@firstumcdecatur.org if you would like to help.
